Thursday 4th March 2010 KLM DEMONSTRATES A TOUCH OF MAGIC AT MANCHESTER
LONDON – Leading airport media specialist, EYE, is delighted to announce that KLM caused quite a stir recently at Manchester Airport with an intriguing promotion staged by Dutch illusionist, Ramana.
A household name in his native Netherlands, Ramana amazed passengers passing through Manchester’s Terminal 2 by demonstrating his levitation skills. Holding an impossible position on a stage in the centre of the departures lounge, Ramana mirrored an image from KLM’s advertising campaign for their Economy Comfort product. Economy Comfort is the new “seating zone” from KLM which has the same seats as in standard economy but with 10cm more legroom and twice the recline.
Ramana has been appearing in KLM’s main European hubs as part of a tour to raise awareness of the product launch. EYE worked with KLM and PSI to create a multi-format campaign which would dominate Manchester’s Terminal 2, KLM’s home terminal at the airport. Formats included the wrapped lift shaft in the terminal’s check-in hall, a trio of EYE’s Lightboxes in the retail area and hanging banners within the heart of the departure lounge. The promotional activity included four shows which were performed to target KLM flights specifically.
Inigo Melis, Head of Agency Sales, said: “The promotional activity featuring Ramana was undoubtedly the highlight of KLM’s campaign at Manchester; his levitation skills made it look as if he was sitting very comfortably on thin air. The promotion drew a lot of interest from passengers wondering how he was doing it with lots of them taking pictures and video of the activity.”
Eye Fly manages six airport advertising concessions in the United Kingdom including Manchester Airports Group (MAG: Manchester Airport, East Midlands Airport, Bournemouth Airport and Humberside Airport), Cardiff International Airport and Belfast International Airport in Northern Ireland.
